Election 2009
It is planned to hold elections to the new Central Bedfordshire Council in spring 2009. More information on future elections will be posted in due course.
Central Bedfordshire will have 66 members, giving a ratio of 2,857 electors for each councillor. Two will be elected in each of the existing county council wards (four in existing two-member wards).
The Shadow Council will make final decisions on the budget and constiution for the new council. The Shadow Executive will take the other major decisions.
The inaugural meeting of Central Bedfordshire’s “Shadow Council” took place on Thursday 10 April 2008 and 99 councillors from Mid and South Bedfordshire District Councils, and those Bedfordshire County Councillors who represent divisions within these areas, elected a 12 person “shadow” Executive. This has four members each from the three authorities merging to form Central Bedfordshire. Tricia Turner as the Leader of Mid Beds, one of the proposing authorities, has taken on the role of lead member of the Shadow Executive.
