Welcome to Central Bedfordshire

On 27 March 2008 Parliament approved the creation of two new all-purpose unitary authorities in Bedfordshire: the new Central Bedfordshire Council and a unitary Bedford Borough Council. They begin providing public services on 1 April 2009.

Central Bedfordshire Council covers the existing Mid Beds and South Bedfordshire areas. It will deliver all the existing services of both Mid and South Bedfordshire District Councils and those currently run by Bedfordshire County Council in these areas. These include social services, planning, education, waste collection and recycling, highways and environmental health.

Bringing these three councils together has already been started by a Shadow Council. Its aim is to minimise any disruption during the process and create a new, effective organisation for the people of Central Bedfordshire.

This website aims to help you understand how Creating Central Bedfordshire is progressing, tell you more about the new body and the area it covers and how you can take part in shaping the new council.
